Community Read 2007

The Buchanan County Public Library invites all interested readers to participate in our 1st Annual Community Read event. In celebration of the Jamestown 200th Anniversary we will be reading “A Land as God Made It: Jamestown and the Birth of America” by James Horn. Kicking off on January 15th, we are encouraging all Buchanan County Residents and library patrons to check out copies of this book at the library or contact Sherry for purchase information.

As part of this celebration, a block of seats for the Barter Theater performance of “Jamestowne” sponsored by the Grundy Community Arts Council is being held for Community Read 2007 participants. The Monday February 26th, 2007 performance will be at the Grundy Community Center. Please talk to Sherry for more details as soon as possible as we expect seats to fill quickly.

Between January 15th and March 15th, 2007 everyone who checks out a book about Virginia History either fiction or non fiction will be entered into a drawing for library related prizes or a Community Arts Council ticket. To enter this drawing, please request an entry form at the Buchanan County Public Library circulation desk.

As the closing event, a “Land as God Made It” book discussion will be held at the library on Thursday March 15, 2007 at 6 pm. Refreshments will be served. The Community Reads drawing winners will be announced at this discussion.
