Confederate Military Pension Records can be viewed online through the Library of Virginia's Digital Collections Project.

By Family Name:  [Complete the following steps:]

  1. Access the Confederate Pension Records Page [Click Here]
  2. Select Land Office Patents and Grants Database.
  3. Set Search Type to [Name] and enter the Last Name of the family you are researching.
  4. Select the [Start] button.
  5. Click on a name in the results screen.
  6. Then click on the NUMBER of the associated document you wish to view - not the name!
  7. To view the document a TIFF viewer must be installed on your computer - to download a TIFF viewer [Click Here]
  8. To view the document select the item in the Multimedia row at the top.
  9. Then click on the document thumbnail marked "Retrieve Document"
  10. Document is displayed - and also saved to the Temp folder of your hard drive for future off-line reviewing
