Coal Mining in
Buchanan County

Buchanan County has a rich history with coal mining.  Mining came late, major production did not begin until the 1930’s; however the impact has been tremendous. This impact will be explored though a series of programs here at the Buchanan County Public Library this summer.

 Come celebrate Buchanan County’s coal mining history!  Between July 7^th 2003 and August 9^th 2003, programs and displays covering 100 years of coal mining will be offered at the Buchanan County Public Library with the assistance of the Buchanan County Historical Society.
