Come to the Buchanan County Public Library circulation desk and we’ll be
happy to help you apply for a library card.
Library cards are issued to residents of Virginia at no charge with proof of
identification and current mailing address. A driver’s license or DMV
identification card works well. Other forms of identification accepted are
social security cards, birth certificates, report cards, or passports with
additional proof of address such as a postmarked letter mailed to your
current address. In general we accept the same forms of identification
accepted by the DMV.
Out of State patrons are charged a fifty percent deposit on all items
checked out with a limit of five items. Patrons from adjacent out of state
counties (Pike KY and McDowell WV) will have this requirement waived after
three months if they have established a good patron record within that time
period.
Juvenile cards are issued to children between 5 and 14 years of age if a
parent or guardian is present to sign the registration card accepting
responsibility for the library materials and to produce identification for
the child.
Young adults between 15 and 18 years of age with a learner’s permit,
driver’s license, or proper identification may receive a library card
without a parent or guardian being present. Until a parent or guardian signs
their registration card, these patrons will have limited internet
privileges.
Library cards must be used to check out library materials.
New card holders are limited to two items. Once those items are returned,
patrons may have a total of 20 items checked out at one time. Of that 20, 5
items may be any combination of VHS tapes or DVDs.
Only patrons over 18 may check out videos and DVD’s. |
