Library Cards
Replacement Cards:
1-2 — $1.00
3-5 — $3.00
6+ — $5.00
Library cards are issued to residents of Virginia at no charge
with proof of identification and current mailing address. A
driver’s license or DMV identification card works well. Other
forms of identification accepted are social security cards,
birth certificates or passports with additional proof of address
such as a postmarked letter mailed to you at your current
address. In general we accept the same forms of identification
accepted by the DMV. Out of State patrons are charged
a fifty percent deposit on all items checked out with a limit of
five items. Patrons from adjacent out of state counties (Pike KY
and McDowell WV) will have this requirement waived after three
months if they have established a good patron record within that
time period.
Juvenile cards are issued to children between 5 and 14 years of
age with parent or guardian present to sign the registration
card accepting responsibility for the library material and to
produce identification for the child.
Young adults between 15 and 18 years of age with learners
permits, drivers licenses, or proper identification may receive
a library card without a parent or guardian being present. Until
a parent
or guardian signs their registration card, these patrons will
have limited internet privileges.
Library cards must be used to check out library materials. New card holders are limited to two items. Once those items are
returned, patrons may have a total of 20 items charged at one
time. Of that 20, 5 items may be VHS tapes or DVDs. Videos and DVD’s may only be checked out by patrons over 18.

Non Circulating Materials Some library materials may only be used by patrons inside the
library. These materials are marked “R” for reference. “LHR” for
local history reference. “Library Use Only”, or
“Non-Circulating”. Bound issues of magazines, current issues of
magazines, newspapers, and government public notice information
does not circulate.
Charges and Fees Patrons will be charged .05 cents per day per item overdue
unless the item is a video or DVD, in which case patrons will be
charged $1.00 per item per day overdue. Overdue limits not to exceed $5.00 per book or magazine, or
$10.00 per video or DVD. Patrons will be charged for damages to items equal to the cost
of repair. If an item is damaged beyond repair, the patron will
be charged current list price or a reasonable replacement cost
(as determined by the library director), overdue fines if any,
and a processing fee of $2.00.
Black and white computer prints cost .10 cents a page. Limited
color prints are available for an additional charge. Photocopies range between .20 and .35 cents depending upon size.
Patrons may send and receive faxes at the library for .50 cents
per page.
Requests and Holds Patrons may place holds on checked out material. A hold prevents
renewals and ensures that the requesting patron will be called
when the item is returned to the library. A patron may have two
active holds. Once the items return to the library, the patron
has six days to claim items except Video’s & DVD’s which must be
claimed within 24hrs. We happily accept suggestions for
purchases. If the item requested is selected for purchase, the
requesting patron will be contacted.
