Minors Visiting the Library
Because of safety concerns the Buchanan County Public Library requires
children under the age of seven to be accompanied by an adult caregiver at
all times. We require that children between the ages of seven and twelve
have an adult caregiver present in the library during their visit. Library
patrons between the ages of thirteen and eighteen are held to the same
standards as adult patrons.
If Adult supervision lapses or if a behavioral problem arises, a staff
member will ask that the adult caregiver return to the child. If an adult
caregiver is not present, the library staff will attempt to contact the
parent or guardian if feasible before contacting the Sheriff's department.
Teen library patrons receive no supervision by library staff other than that
given to any library patron. Library staff may ask any patron to leave the
library if they violate the library's Rules Governing Conduct in the
Buchanan County Public Library.
Library programs and events are subject to special attendance rules,
require registration, and may allow those under eighteen to be present
without an adult caregiver. it is the responsibility of the child's guardian
to ask about library program and event rules before allowing a child under
thirteen to attend without and adult caregiver. |
