Interlibrary Loan Request
Interlibrary Loan Policy
Borrowing Policy:
- We will borrow up to 12 books or periodical titles per physical year for Buchanan County Public Library patrons providing that the requested titles cannot be accessed through the Buchanan County Public Library or free online sources such as Project Guttenburg and Find it Virginia. We will not borrow videos, DVD's, CD's, CD-Roms, or other software.
- Titles borrowed within the Lyrasis Library Network, Virginia Library System, or through SWING incur no charge. If a patron desires to borrow outside these systems, interlibrary loan fees equal to the cost incurred will be charged to the patron.
- Borrowed titles will be due back at the Buchanan County Public Library one week before the due date set by the loaning library. There will be .25 cents per day overdue charge for late interlibrary loan materials up to two weeks. The borrowing patron will be called on the day after the item is due as a reminder. After two weeks, if the item or items are not returned the patron will be called again and reminded that the borrowing patron's interlibrary loan privileges will be suspended and all incurred costs will be charged to that patron's library record unless that item is returned within one week. After one month if the item or items are not returned, the Buchanan County Public Library will make arrangements with the loaning library and all charges up to and including the cost of the item or items will be charged to the borrowing patron's record. At that point, the borrowing patron's interlibrary loan privileges will be suspended.
Lending Policy:
- We will lend up to two books to any library within the Lyrasis Library Network, Virginia Library System, or through SWING at no charge. If a library outside these systems requests a title, we will reserve the right to charge shipping.

- No videos, DVD's, CD's, CD-Roms or other software will be loaned. No genealogy or local history items will be loaned. Requests for these items will fall under the Reference Request policy.
- We reserve the right to discontinue loans to libraries with excessive overdues or non-returns. We also reserve the right to not loan items.
